Derry Cup Winners 🏆

11th Jun 2025

The Greenhaw girls football team enjoyed an unforgettable day at the Derry Cup, showcasing skill, determination, and fantastic team spirit throughout the tournament.

Our campaign began in a challenging group, but the girls rose to the occasion in style. They won every group game, playing some outstanding football along the way. From the very first whistle, their teamwork and attacking flair were clear to see.

In the quarter-finals, we faced tough opposition in Rosemount. It was a more demanding encounter, but the girls put in another impressive performance to secure a well-earned victory and book their place in the semi-final.

The semi-final saw us take on a very well-organised Ebrington side. The game got off to a tense and cautious start, but once again, our players showed great composure and resilience. As the match progressed, they settled into their rhythm, scoring some brilliant goals to secure a place in the final.

In the final, we came up against an unbeaten Holy Family team, and what a game it was! Every single Greenhaw player gave their all, and the substitutes made a real impact when called upon. It was a thrilling and hard-fought contest, but our girls came out on top, crowned champions after another fantastic performance.

Throughout the day, the girls played with flair, passion, and a real sense of togetherness. Many spectators commented on how entertaining and impressive they were to watch. Just as importantly, the team conducted themselves with great sportsmanship and respect for all their opponents—many of whom are also their friends and club teammates.

I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them. It was a brilliant day and a true celebration of girls football in Derry.

A huge thank you to Mr Carlin from St. John’s for organising such a fantastic event.
